As a clinical counsellor, I lean towards a dynamic, engaging and collaborative therapeutic work. I believe clients’ active participation in the alliance is essential and beneficial.
Moreover, I am very mindful of my clients’ time and resources. In doing so, my sessions are mostly geared toward goal setting and solution-focused intervention. I believe setting a goal or having a goal in mind establishes a foundation for the therapeutic work and leads to a productive client-counselor engagement.
I also firmly believe that clients are experts of their own lives and possess an inherent need and capacity for self-improvement and development. As a clinical counsellor and an ally, it is my moral and ethical responsibility to provide a safe and conducive place for the transformation to happen. It is also my job to help clients rediscover and utilize their inner strengths and build and sustain a resilient self.
Lastly, I believe mutual trust and respect are essential elements in building and maintaining a therapeutic alliance.
